Blue Lights Without Fear: When the Ambulance Becomes an "Explorer Mobile"

It’s well known that our association is passionately committed to providing aid in Ukraine. However, amidst all the hustle and bustle, our local activities sometimes fly under the radar. Today, we want to give you an insight into a passion project we’ve been implementing with local kindergartens for several months.
A Spirit of Discovery Instead of Fear
An ambulance with flashing blue lights and sirens can be intimidating for children. Our goal is to take away that fear before it even starts. That’s why we invite the kids to take a close, calm look at the inside of an ambulance.
What the little ones can experience here:
Touching is explicitly allowed: Medical equipment like stethoscopes and oximeters can be tried out playfully.
A look behind the scenes: The rescue vehicle is examined in detail. Every drawer can be opened, and active or former paramedics are always on hand to answer any questions.
Age-appropriate learning: While the younger children explore the vehicle, we go one step further with the older ones (ages 5/6) and explain the basics of the rescue chain in a child-friendly way.

A Small Keepsake
At the end, each child receives a small package with bandages. Having their own gauze bandage as a "souvenir" ensures the experience stays positive in their memory for a long time—and perhaps a stuffed animal at home will be professionally "treated" just as they were shown.
Currently, this initiative is focused on the municipal kindergartens in Sankt Augustin. However, the feedback has been so positive that we are already planning to expand the project to other providers in the region in the future.
We look forward to helping many more children overcome their fear of emergency responders!
