Taking away children’s fear of rescue vehicles and ambulances
Today Gunther and I had the honor of personally picking up the preschool child Elian from his home in Hürth in the ambulance.
It was not a rescue mission, but a trip to his kindergarten, the Kinderwelt, also in Hürth.
Well strapped into his child seat, he was allowed to sit in the front.
My seat was assigned to the back of the ambulance.
After a 10-minute drive, we were greeted by 8 cheerful preschool children.
The kids were amazed when Elian left the ambulance beaming and unharmed, thus easing everyone's discomfort.
We put bandages on some children and explained behavioral instructions.
It was amazing how some kids already knew in theory what to do in an emergency.
Then we finally went inside the vehicle. Drawers and hatches were opened. The kids were told what the things that were neatly stored there were used for.
At the children's request, their pulse was measured. The children were able to hear their own heartbeat using a stethoscope.
All children had good scores because they were now very calm.
Of course, we explained to the Schukis and their staff (🤭) that this ambulance is not used for missions, but that it is actually used to provide first aid to homeless people living on the streets or in shelters. If necessary, further help will be organized.
We believe that the children understood the difference well and that we were able to take away some of their fear of ambulances.
We also found the interest of the teachers particularly great. Many questions were asked and we were able to provide answers.
We then received a thank you in the form of chocolate.
Thank you for that.
Elian then stayed at his daycare and had lunch. It smelled delicious.
The return trip with chocolate on board was almost like a rescue mission. Will we be back in Augustin before the chocolate is completely destroyed??🙏
It was close, but we did it.
It was a successful morning.
Maybe we will be able to organize such an event here after the holidays.
