Thank you, Taras ✝

Today, news reached us that shakes us to our core and pulls the rug from under our feet: Our close companion and dear friend Taras Didych, head of the Dmytrivka community, was killed in a Russian attack.

His death reflects his tireless character in a tragic and painful way: As reported by the chairman of the regional council, Taras did not hesitate for a second following a missile strike near Dmytrivka and immediately drove to the scene to coordinate local relief and rescue efforts. There, he fell victim to a second, devastating blast. He gave his life doing what he had always done: standing by his community and supporting people in their greatest time of need.

Taras had led Dmytrivka since 1994. Even when his community was briefly occupied by Russian invaders in the spring of 2022, he remained and helped the local people however he could.

To our organization, Taras was far more than just an official contact. He was a key pillar and the very heart of our work in the region. With his dependable, pragmatic, and hands-on nature, he provided invaluable support in coordinating and distributing aid in and around Dmytrivka.

Above all, his human warmth and heartfelt hospitality will remain in our memories forever. No matter how oppressive and adverse the conditions on the ground were, Taras managed every single time to make our drivers' and volunteers' stays as safe and comfortable as possible. His loss leaves a massive void: in Dmytrivka, in our hearts, and in our joint relief efforts.

We bow in gratitude before an extraordinary person and a true friend. All our sympathy and thoughts are with his family, his loved ones, and the entire community of Dmytrivka during these difficult hours. We will continue to stand by your side.

Dear Taras, thank you for your courage, your trust, and your friendship. We will not forget you, and we are grateful to have had the privilege of knowing you!
